Mentor FAQs
What are the criteria for becoming a mentor?
You must be able to guide a college student and give sound advice on your experiences. Our mentors have sucessfully completed a post secondary institution and have work experience.
How do you match students with mentors?
Students are matched with mentors that share a similar career path or course of study.
How much time are mentors asked to commit?
Mentors are asked to commit an hour each month. The commitment is one academic year.
Am I obligated to interact with my student outside of the monthly meetings?
Mentors are highly encouraged to email or call their students outside of the monthly meetings. There is also an opportunity for your student to shadow you at your job. The IEF must be notified on all job shadowing activities.
Will I get any training as a mentor?
Yes. All of our mentors must go through a training session before you meet the student with whom you are paired.
