Scholar FAQs

I never graduated high school. Am I still eligible for a scholarship?

Yes, but you must have a GED.

If my financial aid covers all tuition costs may I still be in the program?

Yes. You will still receive all of the educational support services and will still be eligible to receive a stipend.

I am receiving another scholarship. Am I still eligible for an IEF scholarship?

Yes, but we do take financial need into consideration as well as the amount of your other scholarships and grants when calculating the amount of your award.

I have already received a college degree but I would like to return to school for another program. Am I still eligible for an IEF scholarship?

No. Scholarship recipients must be pursuing their first degree.

Is there a GPA requirement?

In order to apply, you must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above. To renew each semester, you must maintain a 2.5 GPA.

Do I have to complete my Associate's Degree?

No. The scholarship coordinator and college advisor will help you lay out an academic plan. If you are planning to transfer to a four-year school, it may be unnecessary for you to complete your Associate's Degree.  If you are planning to complete a vocational certificate program, you do not need to complete an Associate’s Degree.

The IEF requires that all scholars enroll in a “terminal” program.  This means that students must enroll in a specific course of study rather than simply taking a variety of courses that do not lead to a degree or certificate.

May I be enrolled in a certificate or vocational program?

Yes.  The IEF funds certain approved certificate and vocational programs.  Please contact the IEF to ensure that your certificate or vocational program is eligible.

What if I don't want the personalized educational support that you offer because I feel confident I can do it all myself?

You will not be awarded a scholarship.  We believe that our educational support offers an essential part of the college experience and is a requirement of our program.

If I finish at my community college, are there any other options for me with IEF?

Yes. We provide a partial scholarship to students who will transfer from community college to a Bachelor’s Degree program. We also advise program graduates with job placement and encourage them to remain involved in the program as mentors or tutors.
